Sally from Somerset
I am a York based jewellery designer and maker passionate about creating unique jewellery with beautiful glass beads. I use techniques of bead embroidery, bead weaving and wire work to create pieces for special occasions as well as everyday wear. You can find my work in local shops, at craft fairs and art festivals, and I also create bespoke pieces designed to suit your needs.

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND MY BEADED JEWELLERY

One of my biggest sources of inspiration is the beads themselves. What I love most about glass beads is their incredible variety—they come in so many different shapes, colours, and finishes, offering endless creative possibilities. I truly enjoy experimenting with different combinations to find the perfect match, turning a handful of simple beads into a unique and elegant piece of jewellery.
Nature is another key influence in my designs. I’m drawn to its colours, shapes, and textures, and I often find inspiration in the beauty of flowers, plants, and trees. I love capturing these natural elements through photography, using them as a starting point for my creations. If you’d like to learn more about how nature inspires my work, take a look here.
TECHNIQUES

BEAD EMBROIDERY
I use various techniques to create my designs. My most favourite one is bead embroidery. It's a delicate technique where beads are hand-stitched onto fabric to create intricate designs. Each piece requires precision and patience, resulting in artful, unique jewellery. I stitch the beads to a beading foundation made specifically for this purpose, using a strong beading thread to ensure durability. I finish all my embroidery with a genuine leather backing to ensure the piece is comfortable to wear and built to last.
BEAD WEAVING
Another technique I use is bead weaving - a technique where tiny beads are stitched together using a needle and a strong nylon thread to create textured patterns and detailed, durable pieces.
WIRE WORK
I also work with wire. This method involves bending and shaping wire to create desired designs, incorporating beads or other components.
MATERIALS

GLASS BEADS
In my designs, I use both Czech and Japanese glass beads, which are renowned in the world of beaded jewellery for their exceptional quality and vibrant colours. Czech glass beads, crafted with traditional techniques, offer a unique charm and a diverse range of shapes, while Japanese beads are known for their precision and exquisite finishes. Together, they offer endless inspiration for crafting beautiful handmade jewellery that catches the eye.
STAINLESS STEEL
I use stainless steel and gold-plated stainless steel in my handmade jewellery for their durability and elegant appearance. Stainless steel is resistant to tarnishing and corrosion, ensuring lasting beauty, while the gold-plated finish adds a touch of luxury without compromising strength. By incorporating these materials into my designs, I create long-lasting pieces that combine style and practicality, perfect for any occasion.

“Such a beautiful pendant . Exquisitely created. I adore it. Way beyond my expectations.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
*Is all your jewellery one of a kind?
Most of my statement jewellery pieces are one of a kind. My simpler wirework designs are made in small batches or as part of limited-edition collections.

*Do you use gemstones in your handmade jewellery?
No, for ethical reasons I don’t use semi-precious stones. I prefer creating with quality glass beads instead.

*Do you make bespoke jewellery?
Yes, I can create a custom piece based on an existing design. If you love a particular piece but would like it in a different colour or size, or if you’ve seen something that’s no longer available, please get in touch - I may be able to create something similar for you.
CARING FOR YOUR BEADED JEWELLERY
With the right care, your beaded jewellery can stay vibrant and beautiful for years to come. To keep your pieces looking their best, try to avoid moisture, as water and humidity can weaken the materials over time. When you’re not wearing your jewellery, store it in a cool, dry place—ideally in a soft pouch or box—to protect it from dust, light, and accidental damage. Always handle your jewellery with care, taking it on and off gently to prevent scratching or loosening the beads. A little attention to care will keep your jewellery looking just as stunning as the day you received it!

“Gorgeous product, brilliant quality, gift wrap was great, seller clearly really cares and makes a great effort. Mum was so happy with this present, thank you!!”
